Edible Mushrooms (Fungi)
Since the development of Penicillin from a fungus in 1928,
modern science has engaged in studying the more than 100,000 species of identified fungi. Edible mushrooms, the fruit (or "fruiting body") of fungi, are considered by many scientists as the new frontier of modern medicine.
With traditions going back to the earliest recorded civilizations, mushrooms have been used for their health benefits by every culture in the world. At New Earth we source only the finest 100 percent organic mushrooms for our natural whole foods products.
Ingredients: Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is perhaps the most famous of all the scientifically researched mushrooms. Its wide-ranging health benefits stem from its high levels of beta glucans and polysaccharides and its more than 130 identified triterpenoid compounds. The science on reishi is some of the most extensive in the mushroom literature, with many promising avenues of research and potential benefits. Reishi is a complete whole food, rich in proteins, enzymes, minerals, and complex polysaccharides. Maitake (Grifola frondosa), also known as Hen of the Woods, is a highly prized mushroom that grows throughout the temperate forests of North America as well as in China and Europe. Long valued as a gourmet culinary mushroom, maitake also has excellent nutritional value, containing a variety of beneficial phospholipids, unsaturated fatty acids, polysaccharides, antioxidants, beta glucans, and plant sterols, such as the potent ergosterol. Cordyceps was discovered in the mountainous regions of China and Tibet about 1,500 years ago. Revered in Asian cultures, it was prized in the EmperorŐs palace in China. Rich in proteins, plant sterols, polysaccharides, antioxidants, and nucleoside derivatives as its critical components, cordyceps has a been utilized in extracts and formulas for health benefits throughout history. Black Trumpet. Growing wild in hardwood forests around the world and especially near oak and beech trees, the black trumpet is prized as a gourmet culinary mushroom. Closely related to chanterelles and classified as both saprotrophic (feeding on organic matter) and mycorrhizal (symbiotic with the roots of trees and plants), black trumpets contain polysaccharides, polyphenols, beta glucans, and trace minerals. Poria Cocos is a polypore tuber found on the root of the pine tree. It has been a traditional ingredient in Chinese medicine for over 5,000 years and was harvested by Native Americans as a source of food. Rich in beta glucans, polysaccharides, fiber, and triterpenes, Poria cocos is the subject of much scientific study. Wild Bluegreen™ Algae. Our own wild bluegreen is the only edible freshwater bluegreen algae in the world that grows abundantly in the wild, and is considered one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth. Fed by mineral-rich waters and the region's abundant sunlight, Klamath Lake's Wild Bluegreen Algae is rich in phytonutrients, plant-based proteins, minerals, and essential fatty acids, as well as a wide spectrum of micronutrients, making it a profoundly nourishing food that provides a broad range of benefits.
